वर्षिताप जैन (Varshi Tapa) संप्रदाय ऋषभदेव चैत्र कृष्ण अष्टमी

कृष्ण अष्टमी के दिन वर्षिताप जैन संप्रदाय के तपस्वियों की वार्षिक तपस्या शुरू हो जाती है।अगले दिन कृष्ण नवमी को जैन धर्म के पहले तीर्थंकर, भगवान ऋषभदेव का जन्म इसी दिन अयोध्या में हुआ था।

किंवदंती है कि लंबे समय तक खुशी से शासन करने के बाद, महाराजा ऋषभदेव ने अपना पूरा राज्य अपने पुत्रों को सौंप दिया और तपस्या के लिए चले गए। अपनी तपस्या पूरी करने के बाद वे जब भी भिक्षा मांगने जाते थे तो लोग उन्हें बहुमूल्य रत्न देते थे, लेकिन किसी ने भोजन नहीं दिया। इस प्रकार एक वर्ष की यात्रा करते हुए उन्होंने स्वतः ही एक वर्ष का उपवास कर लिया। अंत में अक्षय तृतीया के दिन वे अपने पौत्र श्रेयांश के राज्य हस्तिनापुर पहुंचे। श्रेयांस ने जब अपने किसी काम के लिए गन्ने का रस जमा किया तो उन्होंने उसे भेंट किया.



जिसे पीकर उन्होंने अपना अनशन समाप्त कर दिया। क्योंकि लंबे समय तक उपवास करने के बाद कुछ ऐसे पदार्थ की जरूरत पड़ी जो पौष्टिक, शीतल, शरीर को ताकत देने और भूख को शांत करने वाला हो। गन्ने के रस की विशेषता यह है कि यह पौष्टिक, शक्ति प्रदान करने वाला, भूख शांत करने वाला और मधुर स्वर वाला होता है। पूरी दुनिया में गन्ने का एक ही पौधा है जिसमें जड़ से लेकर ऊपर तक रस और मिठास होती है। केवल अन्य वृक्षों के फलों में माधुर्य और रस होता है।


यह कई तरह से सेहत के लिए भी उपयोगी माना जाता है। शायद यह सब सोचकर आचार्य ऋषभदेव ने माना होगा। यह भी माना जाता है कि इक्षु यानी गन्ने के रस का सेवन करने के कारण उनके वंश का नाम इक्ष्वाकु वंश पड़ा। उस व्रत से उन्होंने जो सिद्धि प्राप्त की वह भविष्य के लिए तपस्वी का अद्भुत इतिहास और जैन तपस्वियों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत भी बन गई। आज भी जैन तपस्वी दीर्घ तपस्या करके उस वर्षी तपस्या के इतिहास को जीवित रखे हुए हैं। इस वर्ष की तपस्या चैत्र कृष्ण सप्तमी से शुरू होती है।

व्रत के दौरान दो दिन तक भोजन नहीं किया जाता और भगवान ऋषभदेव के नाम का जाप किया जाता है। व्रत और पारण का क्रम एक वर्ष तक चलता है और एक-एक वर्ष के दो तपस्या करके एक वर्ष का चक्र पूरा किया जाता है। तपस्या पूरी होने के बाद इक्षुरास द्वारा उपवास किया जाता है। इस प्रकार यह वार्षिक तपस्या जैन तपस्वियों के लिए विशेष महत्व रखती है, सामान्य मनुष्य को यह प्रतीत होता है कि स्वस्थ रहने और आध्यात्मिक प्रगति के लिए कभी-कभी उपवास और पौष्टिक और सुपाच्य भोजन के साथ पारायण करना चाहिए।
