The Islamic Concept of "Tawakkul" (Belief in God)

Amongst the interwoven threads of Islamic mysticism, ‘Tawakkul’ has been given an important place. This Arabic word may be translated as ‘trust in God’ or ‘reliance on God’. It constitutes one of the most basic features in the relationship between a believer and Allah (SWT). Tawakkul finds its roots deep within the Quranic teachings, prophetic sayings, and Islamic ethical tradition. The goal of this discourse is to shed light upon various aspects of tawakkul, its theological significance within Islam, practical demonstrations as well as impact on Muslims’ lives.

Speaking tawakkul means putting all your trust in Allah. The term itself comes from the Arabic language where “wakala” means entrustment or dependence upon another person. In other words, it implies that we should leave everything up to Him firmly believing that He alone can provide for us; keep us safe from harm’s way; and show us what path we are supposed to take next among many other things related to guidance or sustenance. This confidence rests upon our unshakeable faith in His knowledge, mercy, and power because there is no other deity but Him.

Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 21

"Vedāvināśhinaṁ nityaṁ ya enam ajam avyayam
Kathaṁ sa puruṣhaḥ pārtha kaṁ ghātayati hanti kam"

Translation in English:

"O Partha, how can a person who knows that the soul is indestructible, eternal, unborn, and immutable, kill anyone or cause anyone to be killed?"

A Study of Important Ideas in Islamic Tradition

Allah: For Muslims, Allah is God. They trust in His unity and singularity. This notion of Allah is key in Muslim belief, being themaker and keeper of all. They honor Allah with prayers and devout deeds. The Quran, Islams holy scripture, speaks of Allah often. It talks about His nature, His wisdom, and how He relates with people. Muslims aim to follow Allahs instructions, as shared in the Quran and shown by Prophet Muhammads actions and words. In Arabic, Allah means God—its the main god worshipped in Islam.Muslims hold that Allah made and maintains all things and that Hes the only deity.Islam holds a belief called Tawhid, which means Allah is one. Crusades: The Crusades were religious wars. They took place in the Middle Ages. They were started by Christian people of Europe. Their goal was to take back Jerusalem, a holy city, from the Muslims. The Crusades changed a lot of things. There was more political influence from Europe in the Middle East. Trade networks increased too. But, religious issues between Christians and Muslims also increased. Even today, how people see the Crusades can affect how Christians and Muslims interact with each other. The Crusades were like military missions. The Latin Church approved these missions back in the old times. Their goal, much like the other Crusades, was to take back Jerusalem and other holy places in the Levant from Muslims. The Crusades had big effects. They changed politics, religion, and culture. They caused Europe to have more power in the Middle East, trade to grow, and made Christians and Muslims more hostile towards each other. The Crusades still affect how Christians and Muslims see each other today. The Crusades were wars. European Christians started them in medieval times. They wanted to retake the Holy Land (Jerusalem) from Muslims. The Crusades really changed the Muslim world. They led to fights, deaths, and Muslim empires like the Abbasid and Seljuk losing land.

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Transcendental Meditation: Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Session

Transcendental Meditation is simultaneously the most researched meditation technique in the world and the most misunderstood. It has more than 400 peer-reviewed scientific studies documenting its effects on everything from cardiovascular health to cognitive performance to post-traumatic stress disorder. It is practiced by Ray Dalio, who calls it the single biggest influence on his life. It was taught to the Beatles by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh in 1968, an event that introduced the practice to the Western world at scale. And yet most people who have heard of Transcendental Meditation have a fundamentally inaccurate picture of what it actually is, how it works, and why it produces the specific effects that practitioners and researchers consistently document.
