Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 12

न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः।
न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम्‌॥

Translation (English):
Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.

Meaning (Hindi):
कभी नहीं था कि मैं न था, न तू था, न ये सभी राजा थे। और भविष्य में भी हम सबका कोई अंत नहीं होगा॥

Meaning (in English):
In this verse, Lord Krishna conveys a profound truth to Arjuna. He states that there was never a time when he, Arjuna, or any of the present kings did not exist. Besides, there will never be a time  when any of them will cease to exist.

Lord Krishna emphasizes the eternal nature of the soul. He asserts that the individual soul (Atman) is timeless, beyond birth and death. The verse reminds us that the essence of our being, the eternal self, remains unchanged through the cycles of life and death.

Affirming the eternal existence of his self, Lord Krishna encourages Arjuna to overcome his fears and attachments. He assures Arjuna that the temporary nature of the physical body does not affect the true self and that the essence of our being is immortal.

This verse contains a profound message for all people. It reminds us to recognize the eternal nature of our true nature and to align our actions and perceptions with this higher truth. Understanding the immortality of the soul can bring  inner strength, fearlessness and detachment from the ever-changing circumstances of life.

Considering the Heart of Hinduism: A Comprehensive Journey into a Permanent Religion

Understanding the Deeper Logic: Hinduism is primarily a way of life that aims to investigate the big questions of existence rather than merely a religion. The core of Hindu philosophy is the idea of "Dharma," or living a moral life. It places a strong emphasis on pursuing moral and ethical duty, guiding people toward a balanced and peaceful existence.
